What a long and definitely strange trip it’s been! But it has been very rewarding, fulfilling and an amazing experience to run my own business and to serve this wonderful SW Portland community.

Some History…
April 17, 2007, was the day I signed the papers transferring ownership of what was then “Alternate Universe.” I immediately renamed my new business to Other Worlds Games & Bookshop -a nod to my Planetary Geology science degree.

Being new to business ownership, there were lots of growing pains. But something must have been working as only three years later, with the rising popularity of Euro-board games, (European game designers) Dungeons & Dragons (the only game I really knew at the time) and Magic: the Gathering, we were bursting at the seams and in much need of a bigger place.
With good fortune a new place became available just across the street in the main Hillsdale Shopping Center. Once we moved in we’ve never looked back. Our new, amazing and patient landlord early-on recognized us as “an asset to the community” and we strive to live up to that. (Thank you and RiP, Ardy) We have since brought in comics (in 2012), more toys and novelties and in 2014 began offering gaming camps for middle school kids. The camps have done more to grow our store community than anything else we have done.

Of course, we owe all of our success to our amazing, super-powered, hard-working staff, our local patrons, (all of YOU) the kids and the neighborhood. The pandemic has shown us just how much we matter to you and we are deeply honored to continue to serve you and your families. We look forward to many more years of fun and growing together.
